Well, I’ll be at DefCon this year, and I always try to do something fun for the conferences I attend.

Well looks like my rant about the state of open source feed readers hit some sites, so I should put in a few clarifications so people understand what I was looking for more specifically. I’ll do it by answering several of the questions people sent me.

RubyFringe was my last Ruby conference and it was the best conference to go out on. Everything about RubyFringe was great. It was well organized, contained eclectic talks, and supported the weirdness that’s usually hidden at the other conferences.

I’ve been completely fed up with news/feed/rss/atom readers these days. I use Linux as my primary operating system, and I only have a few feeds that I want to rip through quick so I can get to reading the content. Yet, trying to find a reader that doesn’t suck donkey balls has been a chore.

NYC Factor Hack With littledan

Daniel Ehrenberg will be coming in to town this Friday and said he’d love to meet up with the little Factor group I organize on Fridays. In case you don’t know, Daniel is this guy.

Here’s some things about him:

  • And also known as littledan in #concatenative on irc.freenode.org.
  • He is usually very helpful and knows way more about Factor than I do.
  • He’s actively working on Unicode for Factor as well as several other libraries. His blog posts on Unicode are pretty good as well.
  • He maintains the FAQ for Factor and works on much of the documentation.

Dan will be coming in from out of town, and will be leaving the next day. He’s looking to hack with people interested in Factor, talk about coding in general, ask people about working in NYC, and probably do a bit of teaching.

After that, I was thinking we could hit a spot or two around Union Square if people are up for it, or got get Arepas or something else tasty.

Location

As usual, it’ll be at 7pm on Friday Jan 11th at:

Earth Matters 177 Ludlow St. New York, NY 10002

See you all there.
