Well, I’ll be at DefCon this year, and I always try to do something fun for the conferences I attend.

Well looks like my rant about the state of open source feed readers hit some sites, so I should put in a few clarifications so people understand what I was looking for more specifically. I’ll do it by answering several of the questions people sent me.

RubyFringe was my last Ruby conference and it was the best conference to go out on. Everything about RubyFringe was great. It was well organized, contained eclectic talks, and supported the weirdness that’s usually hidden at the other conferences.

I’ve been completely fed up with news/feed/rss/atom readers these days. I use Linux as my primary operating system, and I only have a few feeds that I want to rip through quick so I can get to reading the content. Yet, trying to find a reader that doesn’t suck donkey balls has been a chore.

Happy New year people! While everyone was reading my in-progress rant and enjoying it I went to this awesome place called P*ong with my sexy new girlfriend. We ate a prix fix 10 course meal with some very tasty samplings of the different desserts and savory foods Mr. Pichet Ong makes. It was really cool because we just stumbled in, looked like a cool place, they sat us up at the bar, and we hung out for two hours talking with the chef. Very fun and low key way to bring in the new year.

I’ll be finishing off the Rant tomorrow for anyone that’s interested, and will also do a few follow-ups. Most importantly I want to do another rant that points out the heroes of the Ruby community so that they get credit. There are some incredibly good creative programmers in the Ruby world but the mass of mundane idiots and blow hards drowns them out like wet rats.

I’m also currently working on the statistics section of my book to be an Addison Wesley short cut. This chapter is a combination of learning R and how to apply statistics to analyze the behavior of systems. So far it’s a very simple introduction that will give you three key tools which are used in the rest of the book, and it’s geared to programmers through R.

So far everyone’s loving the rant and the new site, so thanks for the support folks and enjoy your day off.
